In recent years, much of the money flowing into alternative investments and global markets has come from large institutional investors, including public employee retirement funds. The agencies that manage these funds are looking for diversification with the possibility of higher overall returns. One state’s division of investment services, which manages some $84 billion for the state’s retired employees and teachers, needed multi-currency capabilities that their 16-year old system did not have.
